The Township has received an sixth letter from a property owner (the letters have been signed by a total of eight individuals) protesting the formation of a Fire Safety Special Assessment District in Fremont Township. Public Act 33 of 1951, as amended, (MCL 41.801 et. seq.) requires that the question of raising money for fire safety protection by special assessment must be submitted to the electors of the township (i.e., placed on the ballot for voter approval) if the owners of 10 percent of the land to be made into the special assessment district petition for a referendum. At this time the requirement for placing this question on a ballot has not been met and the Township Board has resolved to create a Fire Safety Special Assessment District and and to Assess 0.6109 mil on property in the 2024 Tax Year.
